L7 Dallas Concert reviews
Jackson Browne was a BIG disappointment
After seeing L7 a couple of times before, I was really looking forward to his June 24th performance at the Greek Theater in Berkeley, one of my favorite venues in the Bay Area. He did sound great and was ably backed by superb band (including long-time partner David LIndley) and two talented back-up singers. Unfortunately, the show was a huge disappointment. On the way out of the venue, we heard many others in the audience also express their frustration and disappointment. While I didn't expect him to play every one of his many hit songs, I do think after paying $65 for a ticket that we deserved more than just 4 of his hits and TOO many lesser known or newer songs. H e then graced us with a single-song encore of "I am a Patriot" - really??? No "Load-Out/Stay", which was what EVERYONE expected. And we did get to hear "In the Shape of a Heart", "The Pretender", "Doctor My Eyes", and "Running on Empty", but that was it for hits. While we all like Warren Zevon, did we really need to hear TWO (2?) different Zevon songs, and a forgettable Bruce Springsteen mystery song. What? He couldn't squeeze in one more of his better known tunes? Nice job, JB - you have ensured that I will never come to see you again. His fans wanted to hear the songs they love, not a self-indulgent set of songs we'd never heard before. In fact, we had more fun on the way home in the car listening to the dozen or so JB hit songs that he didn't manage to play. L7 needs to get over himself.
